Hello and welcome to our Best and Worst of the Year episode of For The Lore. In this episode, Joe, Enrique and myself decide which we thought deserved the hat tip in categories such as:

  • Best Cleavage
  • Best New Way of Killing Mobs
  • Biggest Fucking Dudes

As well as old standards like:

  • Best FPS
  • Best RPG
  • Game of the Year
  • Biggest Surprised
  • Biggest Disappointment

Truly an epic episode with several call-ins during our post-show from regular listeners.

Please note this advertising promo is still available.

Borg Bridge Officer

Borg Bridge Officer

I mentioned on the podcast that I am going to start seeking advertisers on the show. We are doing very well now and have gotten a lot of new followers (in part due to some fantastic interviews, of which there are still more planned). I’ve been checking our download numbers and they’re at a point where I can now justify the cost to potential advertisers.

That being said, as part of an interesting promotion right now (due to my love of Star Trek Online), I’m prepared to give a month’s worth of advertise at the low, low cost of a Borg Bridge Officer pre-order code. Allow me to explain…

As mentioned during the podcast, Joe and I have pre-ordered Star Trek Online from Gamestop, thereby securing ourselves a Starfleet Constitution Class ship (with, as also mentioned in the podcast, blue phaser lasers pewpew).

Various retailers will be offering different pre-order bonuses for Star Trek Online (fiendish, I know). I am particularly interested with the Borg Bridge Officer which you receive when you pre-order from Amazon.com. And when I say “particularly interested”, that is a gross understatement.

I want it so hard.

What I am offering is one month’s advertising for that pre-order code. The game is currently priced at a mere $46.99, which makes for one hell of a bargain folks. I will advertise your website, your business, your personal blog, your girlfriend or boyfriend or dog’s name, whatever. As long as you aren’t asking me to advertise anything illegal (or highly immoral), we’re good to go.

Wondering how you can sign up for this? There are two ways.

First option:

Pre-order from Amazon.com and send me an email at forthelore (at) gmail (dot) com. Give me the details of that which you’d like advertised. The game will release on February 2nd. The certificate for the Borg Bridge Officer will be in the package that you receive. Upon receiving it, you would email it to me. I would then apply the code to my account, and once verified that it has not been used, we’d start with the four weeks of advertising.

This option allows you to keep the actual game, and play it or do with it as you please. All that I would receive would be the Borg Bridge Officer code.

Second option:

You email forthelore (at) gmail (dot) com and indicate your interest in this promotion. You state that you would rather not wait till February and don’t really care about owning Star Trek Online. I send you a bill through PayPal for $50.00 (to cover the cost of shipping to Canada). Upon receiving the payment, advertising would start with the very next podcast episode. I would use the money to purchase the game and so not have to wait in order to verify the validity of the code. This copy of the game would belong to me, to do with as I please (thinking either my son, or Rick).

Advertising would continue for a full four weeks, and as a bonus, I would also give you a bonus week of advertising during the week of the game’s release in February (if you are interested).

This is a fantastic, inexpensive offer. In the words of late night jewelry salesmen; “Act now!” This offer is limited and I reserve the right to refuse anyone.

If you enjoy the show and would like to donate to help cover some of the costs, every little bit is appreciated.

Thanks.

The Borg BO is connected to the game key not an individual key just for the bridge officer if it is like the preorder items for champions.

I don’t understand why For The Lore people hate Aion so much. I’ve listened to a few podcasts and can’t put my finger on your reasons. You hated the launch, fair enough, although my server did not ever have queues and the launch went very smoothly for me and my friends so your experience wasn’t shared by everyone.

Another reason I heard is it wasn’t ported to NA audiences as well as it should. I don’t understand that at all, it’s all so vague and fairly racist. Yes it has Asian roots and flavor, why is that bad?

Another reason I heard is you don’t like running around so much. Fair enough again but it doesn’t bother me at all.

I dunno, your reasons just seem so picky to make it Disappointment of 2009. I played Torchlight, which you rave about and it seems like a child’s game to me, so much meh. Dragon Age, I’m playing now and like it a lot so at least we agree on one thing.

I just don’t understand the Aion hate. It’s a very popular and robust game atm. I love it and will be playing it for a very long time. Yes it can be challenging. I like that. I don’t see it all that different from WoW and you guys seem to like that. It’s just confusing.

Actually, throughout several podcast episodes, we went into great detail as to our issues with the game, and even made a bunch of suggestions as to how the game could be improved.

We are not the only ones who have a problem with the game. Read through reviews and check the meta scores. It simply is not as good a game as many of us would like it to be.

That being said of course, all games are subjective. The fact that you enjoy it is great. And I mean that seriously. I’m glad that some people can enjoy it, and with any hope, they’ll continue to make some sweeping improvements. As I said during the last podcast, I really would like to play it again, should they make some fairly huge changes to game mechanics. The IP has potential.

As for Torchlight, again this is where we can agree to disagree because tastes are subjective. In this case, as with Aion, a lot of people agree with me that the game is absolutely superb. If it’s not for you, luckily, you’ll have not wasted too much money (especially considering the recent holiday sales).

And then there’s Dragon Age: Origins, which most of us love… except for Rick.

One last thing, please don’t think for one moment that my issues with Aion are because it is challenging. I don’t want easy games. I want a challenge, otherwise what is the point in playing.

My issues with Aion have nothing to do with it being challenging, as you mentioned.

It’s fairly pretty, but there are so many INSANELY STUPID aspects that turned me off so hard:
-You’re allergic to WATER! “Oh noes, I’m ankle deep in water and my health is fading!” Who’s idiotic idea was that?!
-You fly away from the city, hit an invisible wall and suddenly you have to walk again. WHY give us wings if we have invisible walls of clipped-wingedness all about?!

That alone turned me off to it, plus it’s basically Guild Wars 1 1/2.
Plus, tons of hype lead to a very large let down.
