No More AFK Shops
Seems NCSoft is none too happy about people using their personal shops as a a means of remaining logged in.
We are bringing the servers down at 6:00AM PST (more), September 25th, for maintenance. The purpose of this downtime is to tweak the way Private Stores work. A timer of 30 minutes will be implemented to prevent these shops from being abused as a means to prevent disconnection and alleviate queues.
The maintenance is expected to run no longer than 1 hour.
My feelings about this are mixed. On one hand, I absolutely hate walking into an outpost or town and seeing nothing but shop windows (the ones about everyone’s heads advertising their oh so cheap prices… fyi numbnuts, a million for a manastone is not cheap, and you aren’t going to trick anyone into buying one).
On the other hand, taking into consideration the unbearable queues, it is the only way we can remain in the game and be able to play.
They may think this will alleviate the queues… and perhaps it will to a certain degree. However it certainly will not knock them under the hour long mark, which I maintain is still too long to have to wait to play a game that we have paid to play.
Want a fix, NCSoft?
Create more servers (and not just one for NA and one for Europe, for Christ’s sake). Then offer free character transfers for anyone interested in moving.
How about showing some customer appreciation for those of use who chose to support your game.
