Aion’s Vision of the Future

Aion’s Vision of the Future

After a LOT of buildup, NCSoft has released their ‘Vision of the Future’ for Aion. The 9 minute video shows off a lot of changes, however due to the lack of any kind of narrative, you are led to speculate about specifics.

It would appear that mounts will finally be introduced into the game, however it doesn’t appear as though you will actually be able to own one. You either rent one or pound the ever lovin’ shit out of one in the wild and then hop onto its pulverized back.

Player housing will be added to the game, however it all looked fairly cosmetic (and not really useful). Sure, you can move a sofa anywhere within the room, however that’s not going to help you unless you are a serious RPer. You don’t need a bed to rest in the game. What I would have liked to see is an armory or chest where you can store a lot of loot without having to spend bajillions of kinah on cube expansions. What I would have liked to see was a personal professions ‘workshop’ where you can quickly make up some shit without having to go to the capital city.

Swimming is coming to Aion… which basically means you’ll have the joy of hitting those invisible barriers underwater as well. To be honest, this is good… and they appear to be adding questing under there as well. But as @Spoonwolf said on his blog, this shit should have been in the game from day one along with the mounts.

The weather effects and improved graphics are very nice and welcomed, however you will definitely be feeling that hit if you’ve got an older rig.

I’m not even going to go into the colossus, because quite frankly that shit didn’t make any sense to me.

Check out the video below, or just scan through the gallery at the bottom of the post and let me know your thoughts.

I’m not saying that it does any more, but when I first played the game it felt like an achievement.

Oh, I agree that when you had to wait till 40, there wasn’t the existing quest experience bonus, and it actually took a while to ding 40 and save for the mount, yeah, it was an achievement.

Nowadays, it’s like buying a cheeseburger. Nothing special.

Yeah. Sorry for the confusion, lol.

Screw that shit… I want a mount on day one.

“Oh hai! Welcome to Azeroth/Atreia/wherever. Here’s a set of wheels cause we understand that running is for bitches… and you don’t look like anyone’s bitch.”

I don’t think a mount on day 1 would be a good idea. I like the fact that you have to work up to 20 in WoW before you get one. It’s one of the few things in the game that gives me a sense of achieving something.

If getting your first mount in WoW is your idea of an achievement, dude… you need to find a new game.

I think they wanted to set themselves apart from other MMO games as much as possible by not having mounts and not having the ability to swim (which is all kinds of fail). I could be completely wrong though.

No, I agree with you completely. It’s ridiculous not to have mounts. The whole wings gimmick would have worked, were it not for the fact that you need faster transportation often cause you can’t use the damn wings.

It’s just like the starting WoW levels were you have to run all over the fucking place. There’s a reason why Blizzard has repeatedly dropped the mount level requirements. Because people hate fucking running around.

I agree on the Blizzard droppign mount requirements comment, but I still think that it’ll be a mistake if they let you get mounts from day 1.

As for Aion, I’m actually happy with the speed of the wings. The thing I don’t agree with is that outside of the Abyss, you can’t use the fucking things anywhere else other than the fucking starting areas in each zone (as far as I’ve played that’s the case)
