Of Armories and iPhone Apps

Of Armories and iPhone Apps

September 21, 2009 in Aion, Rants, World of Warcraft

NCSoft recently announced their Aion Armory.  It appears to be fairly slick, though you can’t check any characters.  I’m curious how much they gleamed from Blizzard’s Armory for World of Warcraft.

I believe that in this day and age, an armory of sorts should be deemed mandatory.  We’ve seen the success (and popularity) of both the official WoW Armory, as well as all of the websites which pull that data to present it in different ways.  I love being able to pull a 3D rendering of my characters from 3D Armory.  I also love the simple MicroArmory for use on my iPhone.

Speaking of which, the World of Warcraft Armory app for the iPhone/iPod Touch has shown that there is a lot of interest for alternative means of viewing characters and even organizing events via the calendar.  Considering just how many people have iPhones and iPod Touches, it stands to reason that this is a very large untapped market when it comes to game developers bridging their games to such applications.

As it stands, the WoW Armory is free (as it should be), however would you pay a buck or two for an app that would allow you to access your auction house alt’s bags (and bank).  An app that would allow you to scan the Auction House and put items up for sale?

Oh, hell ya!

For The Lore Podcast

September 10, 2009 in Podcast

I’m very happy to be announcing that For the Lore will be starting a brand new podcast next week. Some of you know that I already produce a gaming podcast (WoW Dawgs), however it is limited to World of Warcraft. I wanted to start a podcast with a broader gaming scope, while still adhering a theme.
To that end, the For the Lore podcast will be devoted to story-driven games. We will mainly cover RPGs (and MMOs), however that is not to say that we will not be discussing other genres. We will talk about lore, specific quests, gameplay and even game design across all platforms (PC, Mac, PS3, XBox 360, Wii, PSP, DS, iPhone/iTouch, etc).
The podcast will be recorded live every other Monday at 7PM EST, and then released for download the following Wednesday for those who can’t make the Stickam session. The episodes will be released on a bi-weekly basis, however will have a lot of content to make up for it.
I am very fortunate to have secured a couple excellent co-hosts for the show. I know they will be bringing their A game to each episode, all for your listening pleasure.
Joe (@lodurzj) is an experienced blogger and game analyst. He is also a regular contributing writer for the hugely popular World of Matticus.
Enrique (@Spoonwolf) has been operating Spooncraft, the fantastic gaming blog that covers a wealth of games, concentrating on story-driven RPGs.
Both of these gentlemen are great writers, which is good as we will also be discussing fan fiction, role playing and the likes on the show.
If you care about the stories behind the games you play, whether discussing World of Warcraft, Aion, Uncharted 2 or ol’ school pen and paper D&D, this is the podcast for you.
If all you care about is pew-pewing and leveling… hell, give us a shot anyway… simply cause we rule.
So mark it on your calendar folks, and let’s get a huge audience for our first show on Monday the 14th, at 7PM EST (pre-show starting at 6:45PM). I will post more details as we get closer, as well as links to the Stickam page.
Please retweet like crazy and slap up some of our banners (below) on your sites. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
